On the 9th of November the Wall, that had previously parted Germany for over 28 years, fell. With it went the DDR (German Democractic Republic) and the attempt to seperate a country and its population.
Over 160 kilometers of heavily guarded border strip separated West and East Berlin from each other and the numerous attempts to escape the DDR over that border in many cases ended in the death of the fugitives.
But after the events of this 9th November it took less than six months for the Wall to be dissembled and the border controls to end. Today the parts of the Berlin Wall are scattered all over the world although some parts in Berlin are still left standing as a reminder of the once seperated Germany.
A section of 1.3 kilometers length was painted over by the artists of the East Side Gallery in 1990 as an international memorial for freedom. Some of these paintings are now being recreated in the form of unique leather clothes handpainted on by the original artists of 1990.
