On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall the Berlin Fashion Designer Daniel Rodan creates his project "Mauerkleider – East Side Gallery goes Fashion".
The idea is to connect fashion and the historical event of the Fall of the Wall. Twenty motives have been chosen to be painted by the artists of the original Wall and five other artists. Fashion Designer Rodan and ten youngdesigners develop a unique collection of different styles from classic to 80s, retro or new wave punk.
The new historically connected collection of "Mauerkleider" provides new impulsives and brings fashion and German history with relation to the capital city 'Berlin' into a new context. It is the first time that significant artworks of the original Wall can be worn as dresses, suits and accessoires made of leather.
A close cooperation with the artists initiative East Side Gallery e.V. under the administration of Kani Alavi was developed right in the beginning. A couple of events are planned altogether with the Rodan-crew.
Aside from the artists there are several co-operations with partners from different areas, who support the project financially, organisationally or in public relations.
The dresses and suits (also called 'Mauerkleider') will be auctioned at public charity events for a good cause, to support charity and welfare groups. The raised funds will be completely handed over to the benefit institutions.
Regular events, activities, campaigns, broadcasts and publications will be arranged before and after the anniversary, to be constantly present for public.
